What I’m Watching: True Detective

image

Hello again, TV. I seem to be loving you quite a lot at the moment, especially since you have a series like True Detective. I gotta say, when actors get older, they just get better. McConaughey and Harrelson have fantastic dialogue and exchanges; you quickly get to see how their characters consistently peel apart as they dive deeper into a case that surrounds a serial killer based on “The King in Yellow”.

Gameplay: The Witcher

image

Steam has some pretty great deals, and I picked up the Witcher/Witcher 2 last year for around $6. Needless to say, I’ve only managed to find the time to play now and this game is pretty entertaining. But what becomes a bit of a put off is that I’m playing as a male. I don’t know about other Gamer Girls but it gets hard for me to portray myself as a male, especially if the game is exploring the characters in depth.

But I’m willing to give it a try as good gameplay tends to trump my insignificant differences.

What I’m Reading

I didn’t realize that 2013 was the 10th anniversary for The Walking Dead comic. I actually started reading this around 2006, so it feels like a lot shorter time.

The characters in the comics sure are going through (and are still going through) hell so let’s see if the TV series will be able to reach 10 seasons.

What I’m Watching

I’m loving Season 2. Season 1 unexpectedly blew me away and I’m so glad that this is a TV series instead of a crappy movie remake/reboot.

TV is really killing the movie industry right now.

Disney Villainesses - Behind the Tears
As you all know by now I love color so it was easy to be inspired by Roy Lichtenstein with his famous dot art, along with Jack Kirby. I’ve also wanted to do something with Disney characters for the longest time and I love bad guys. So here’s a series I imagined of how Disney Villainesses go through personal pain.

charismaticbard asked: Hey, not sure if this matters but I wanted to point out (about the witcher having a male protagonist) that the story originates from books, so it's not as much of a personalised rpg (like dragon age) in that sense!

Oh yeah, the first book was a great read :) I was thinking along the lines of playing rpgs like Chrono Trigger, the Final Fantasy series, etc…and how it starts off okay, but gets kinda weird when the male protagonist (me) gets a romantic interest. However, it doesn’t get weird if I’m a female protagonist and have a female love interest, like in Mass Effect. I guess I feel more connected to the protagonist if the protagonist was female.

But all in all, it just comes down to me being super particular/having personal gaming preferences haha :)

Kabuto + Mengu
A side project led me to explore Samurai helmets and facial armour, and I loved creating these pieces that were filled with rich history.

What I’m Watching

Keri Russell is fantastic. She gave me a lasting impression when I saw her in Mission: Impossible III and I wondered for the longest time when she would be back in a kick ass role.

Redesign - “Save the Date” video game theme invitation
My cousin Melissa mentioned to me that a video game/board game theme was her Plan B and entertained the thought as to what that would visually look like. So as a fellow GeekGirl and just wanting to get creative, I redesigned her “Save the Date” invitation that was inspired by the opening story screen from “Bubble Bobble”. Also featuring are their two beloved cats, Harley and Quinn.

DISCONTINUED - Laugh Track project

As of Day 115, I will be discontinuing the Laugh Track project, mainly because I don’t feel challenged anymore. During the start of the project, I loved the distinct physical features the characters had, so I could create their bodies with different sized shapes. But as I continued, a lot of the character ended up having the same tall, slender body and I found myself copying and pasting, rather than creating each character.

I wanted to thank everyone that watched and showed their support. I’m sad to be discontinuing this project, but more disappointed in myself that I was posting art I didn’t necessarily have my entire heart set into, and my main intention is to do the best work I can for everyone.

But fear not - I will continue to showcase my creativity so stay turned!
